Kindle users! I would like to know more?

I'm thinking of buying the Amazon Kindle (Kindle DX) but I'm hesitant for several reasons. If all books avilable as e-books [Text university], I have to pay for them? Are they only avilable through Amazon? I would like more information in general. Sounds great! I just want a second opinion or third. How good is the one with the latest books avilable?

I have the Kindle 2, I have some of my college textbooks on it.
