We’ve got one. Personally I think they’re great. It’s simply the fact that you can store over a hundred books on it and as many as you can fit on a SD card as well.

You can find free books; I’ve just finished reading The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury, which my wife spotted on a website and downloaded. Generally though, ebooks are cheaper than buying paperbacks; Waterstones one’s are anything from a pound less to half price, very rarely are they the same.
If you travel a lot, and read while you do so, an ebook reader is a lot lighter than a half dozen books and gives you the scope to have pretty much a full library rather than just the one or two you picked up in the train station or the airport.

Ok, they’re not cheap. The Sony one we got was about the cheapest and that was still just shy of two hundred pounds. There’s a touchscreen version by another manufacturer for about five hundred, but personally I don’t think that’s even remotely worth it, touchscreen or not.
