I just bought one of these for my stepfather for Father's Day, but reading the comments about Amazon 10 months ago seemed to be a lot of screen freezes and restart problems, but the latest revisions do not mention it much. Has improved software? Hope you do not buy me a gift that will have to spend time fixing. OK that makes me feel better. Thank you both!

I have not had that problem. In 9 months of ownership, my Kindle froze only once. And 30 minutes of charging fixed the problem. In fact, since the upgrade from version 3.1, has been conducting great in every way.
