If you will mainly be using the device for reading books, the iPad is not a great choice; compared to devices designed only for reading, its battery life is much less, it’s heavier, and its screen washes out in bright light (it also costs more).

Of the remaining two devices, Sony or Nook, I would go with the Nook simply because it lets you buy books immediately wirelessly, whereas the Sony ereader (I think) still requires you to buy using your computer, and then you have to transfer from your computer to the reader via a USB cord.

But I would actually go with the Amazon Kindle instead of the Nook – it’s a little easier to use and more books are available; and like the Nook it lets you purchase books right from the device, wirelessly.
